IMF to release loan as Bangladesh to go for flexible exchange rate
- The Bangladesh Bank has agreed to adopt a more flexible US dollar-taka exchange rate, known as a “crawling peg” system, to secure the release of two more installments of the IMF’s $4.7 billion loan program.
- The IMF will disburse $1.3 billion in two tranches, expected to be received by June.
- Under the new system, the exchange rate can fluctuate by up to 2.5% from the current rate of Tk 119 per US dollar, allowing the dollar to be traded for up to Tk 123.
