Development of the Day Border situation in eastern Ladakh 'direct result' of Chinese action to effect unilateral change in status quo
India on Thu said the situation witnessed in the border areas in eastern Ladakh over the past four months is a “direct result” of actions taken by China aimed at effecting unilateral change in the status quo of the region.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said India is committed to resolve all issues through dialogue, noting the way ahead to address the issue is negotiations, according to a PTI report.
“It is clear that the situation we witnessed (in eastern Ladakh) over the past four months is a direct result of actions by Chinese side aimed at effecting unilateral change in status quo.
“We strongly urge China to sincerely engage with the Indian side with the objective of expeditiously restoring peace in border areas through complete disengagement,” he said at an online media briefing.

China Provoked India in Latest Clash, U.S. ‘Believes’
The U.S. Believes, China deliberately provoked India with a new incursion into contested territory earlier this week and that Beijing remains enraged that its local commander withdrew forces when a physical conflict appeared imminent, according to an US intelligence assessment.
- The U.S. believes Indian forces have prevented any loss of ground, according to a source familiar with the assessment who spoke on the condition of anonymity, following the latest faceoff, which Indian and Chinese officials revealed early Mon took place at the southern end of the Pangong Tso.
The Chinese FM spokeswoman Hua Chunying, while designated it as “irrational” and “delusional“, added “it will make legitimate responses to the Trump administration’s latest restrictions on Chinese diplomats citing security reasons”. The reaction came after the U.S. side has imposed fresh restrictions and barrier on Chinese diplomats in the U.S.
India steps up scrutiny of Chinese influence group
- India has ordered tougher scrutiny of visa requests by a Chinese non-profit headed by a senior official of the ruling communist party, designating it as an entity of concern in a broader security sweep, sources involved in the matter say.
- The closer monitoring of the Chinese Association for International Understanding (CAIFU) comes at a time when India and China are locked in their most serious border dispute in more than half a century.
- This week India imposed tougher rules for companies joining in government tenders.
- Its latest step also follows tougher scrutiny of Chinese cultural and language institutions such as Confucius Institutes in the United States and partnerships in Australia.
- Indian officials say the well-resourced Beijing-based group is tied to the Communist Party Central Committee’s United Front Work Department, which runs influence operations outside China by cultivating leaders, members of think tanks and the media.
- In an internal memo, the Indian government has listed the body as an entity of concern, signaling that its activities could run counter to national interests, said two officials aware of the matter.
India-China border tension: RKS Bhadauria visits eastern air bases, Gen Naravane in Ladakh
Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane arrived in Ladakh on a 2-day visit. He will review the ground situation amid escalating India-China tensions. Also, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria visiting multiple frontline air bases in Eastern Air Command today. These visits came after meeting with National Security Advisor, A Doval yesterday.
The talks between the two sides have been going on for the last three months including five Lieutenant general-level talks but have failed to yield any results, so far. (ANI)

UNSC rejects Pakistan’s application for listing 2 Indians under sanction list
- The United Nations Security Council has rejected Islamabad’s application for listing of 2 Indian Individuals as international terrorists under UNSC’s resolution 1267.
- The move was blocked by 5 members of the UNSC council USA, UK, France, Germany, and Belgium.
- On the development, India’s Permanent Representative to UN, T S Tirumurti tweeted “Pakistan’s blatant attempt to politicize 1267 special procedure on terrorism by giving it a religious color, has been thwarted by UN Security Council. We thank all those Council members who have blocked Pakistan’s designs”.
- Backed by longtime ally China, Pakistan had proposed the designation of four Indian nationals in 2019 under the UN 1267 Sanctions List. Of the four names, UNSC had rejected two names earlier and the remaining two listing proposals of Angara Appaji and Gobinda Pattnaik Duggivalasa were blocked on Wed.
- Sources said that no evidence was found to substantiate the Pakistani claim.

SC protects loans not declared NPAs till Aug 31 from such action for now
The Supreme Court on Thu said those accounts that had not been declared non-performing assets (NPAs) as on Aug 31st should not be declared bad loans until the case was disposed of, the Live Law reported.
The decision was taken by a Bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy, and M R Shah, who were hearing pleas seeking an extension of the moratorium on loan repayments in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Court will continue its hearing in the case on Sept 10th.

Non-bailable arrest warrants issued for Nawaz Sharif in land allotment case
- An accountability court on Thu issued arrest warrants for former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in illegal land allotment case, to then Punjab CM to Mir Shakilur Rehman ARY News reported.
- The hearing was presided over by AC Judge Asad Ali, in which editor-in-chief of Jang Group of Newspapers and owner of Geo News Mir Shakilur Rahman was produced before the court.
- The police after being asked by the court about non-appearance of Sharif, said that he is currently in London and the summon notice has been sent to his residence.
- Meanwhile, the court also extended judicial remand of Mir Shakilur Rahman till Sept 17.

Crude oil carrier with 2,00,000 metric ton cargo on fire; Indian Coast Guard ships en-route Sri Lankan coast for firefighting
- Three Indian Coast Guard ships are headed for the Central-eastern Sri Lankan coast to help fight a fire on-board MT New Diamond, a Panama-flagged oil tanker.
- The ablaze oil-tanker is located about 36 nautical miles from the Sri Lankan coast.
- The oil tanker was bound for Paradip, Odisha on India’s eastern coast from Kuwait. Of the 23 crew on-board, 19 are said to have been rescued.
- At the time of writing, one crew member is said to be injured, another missing, while the captain is on-board with another crew member.
- India’s coast guard, also known as Sentinels of the Sea, have mobilized vessels- Shaurya, Sarang and Samudra pehredar to assist in fighting the fire. Besides the vessels, a Dornier aircraft has also been deployed for the operation.
- One Indian vessel is expected to reach the site by evening. The story will be updated.

11 teams of India-US scientists to jointly scout for ‘out of box’ COVID-19 solutions
According to a release from the Ministry of Science and Technology, “11 teams of Indian and US scientists will soon start jointly scouting for out of the box solutions ranging from novel early diagnostic tests, antiviral therapy, drug repurposing, ventilator research, disinfection machines, and sensor-based symptom tracking for COVID 19.”
“The teams have been selected to take up these initiatives through a rigorous binational review process of proposals received for an invitation under COVID-19 Ignition Grants in April 2020 issued by the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF),” a release from the Ministry said.

Covid-19 is raging across the country but reports about a spike in cases on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (A&N) have set off alarm bells as the islands are home to indigenous tribes that may be at greater risk from new diseases. Recently, 10 members of the 59-member Great Andamanese tribe tested positive for the coronavirus.
