As an first official confirmation, MoS (Home) said in a written answer in LS 'Till Now, No Decision On Nationwide NRC'

  • The opposition and some of the BJP allies have been expressed opposition to the proposed pan-India NRC process.
  • NRIC (Nation Register for Indian Citizen) was in pre poll manifesto of BJP, to eliminate intruders, supposed to be came from neighboring countries, including B’Desh Myanmar etc.
  • However, problem arises when HM Amit Shah boldly during CAA debate in LS said that “NRIC must be implement, come what may”.
  • This helped the opposition to correlate present CAA to upcoming NRC (as stated by HM) and successfully create a fear mongering among Muslim community.
  • The NRC updating exercise in Assam was aimed at filtering a specific set of “illegal immigrants”.
  • The final draft of the Assam NRC was published on July 31 last year.
  • Over 19.06 lakh people were left out from the NRC list and would now need to prove they are Indian citizens.
  • The NRC named around 3.11 crore people in Assam as citizens of India.

'Jihad against India': Pakistan PM Imran Khan urged by his MPs to start war after Feb 10

  • As per Pakistan’s publication Dawn, members of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) urged the Pakistan government to declare jihad against India.
  • JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali even suggested that PM Imran Khan should announce that Pakistan would start a war with India after Feb 10.
  • Chitrali’s call for Jihad against India was welcomed by several leaders in the Pakistan National Assembly yesterday.
  • Other leaders in the Pakistan Assembly asserted that war is the only option available in order to “liberate the people of Kashmir and to complete the unfinished plan of the subcontinent’s partition.
  • Parliamentary leader of the main opposition Khawaja Asif lashed out against the other Islamic countries accusing them of doing nothing for the people of Kashmir.
  • Asif went on to add that Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) is a “dead organization and apart from three-four member countries, rest of the nations could not even defend themselves, so how would they talk about Kashmir”.
  • This can be seen in relation with PM’s current visit to Malesia, only country besides Turkey who supported on Kashmir issue.
  • After the three-hour-long Assembly session, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan got emotional and urged the country to “come up with a plan to attack India and take Jammu and Kashmir”.
  • PM Imran Khan is yet to respond on the calls for jihad against India.
  • Pak’s National Assembly, today passed a unanimous resolution extending solidarity with the people of Kashmir, The resolution was moved by Kashmir committee chairman Fakhar Imam: ARY News reported.

SC has adjourned of Zakia Jafri case till Apr 14

  • A plea of Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, challenging the clean chit given by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and several others in 2002 Gujarat riots.
  • Last time SC heard the petition on Dec 3, during which advocate Kapil Sibbal sought more time to produce documents.
  • Ehsan Jafri was an Indian politician and former member of the 6th Lok Sabha for the Congress Party, who was killed in the Gulbarg Society massacre, which was one of the episodes of mob violence against Muslims during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
  • A conspiracy theory has been lauded since the riot of Guj that then CM was responsible for it, but that couldn’t sustained at any forum of Law.

RBI's rate setting panel starts meeting amid rising inflation, slowing GDP

Mumbai: RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das headed six-member rate setting panel started its 3-day brainstorming meeting on Tuesday in the backdrop of Union Budget projecting a widening of fiscal deficit amid slowing economy and hardening inflation.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), which announces the benchmark lending rate (repo) on bi-monthly basis, has been tasked by the government to tame retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 4 per cent (± 2 per cent).

Experts said the MPC members are going to have a tough time as slowing economy makes the case for reduction in repo rate, while rising inflation and

higher fiscal deficit will require the central bank to either hike the rate or maintain a status quo.

Moody’s Investors Service on Tuesday said economic growth projections made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget for 2020-21 appear ambitious given the structural and cyclical challenges facing the Indian economy.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 12 pm after uproar by opposition over BJP MP Anant Kumar Hegde’s statement against Mahatma Gandhi.

  • MHA in a written reply in LS stated that Delhi Police have reported incidences of violence, unlawful gathering, stone pelting, and damage to public/personal property.
  • Some 66 protests took place in Delhi, 11 cases have been registered in which 99 people have been arrested for protests against CAA 2019.
  • Yesterday, ahead of firing reports, Rapid Action Force deployed near Shaheen Bagh protest site.
  • Meanwhile, a death of 4 month old kid have been reported, from the protest of Shaheen bagh due to Cold.
  • But more shocking is statement of mother that we will not stop protest till Modi didn’t withdraw CAA and NRC (which is yet to come)!!
  • Hindu groups lead a protest march at JMI University today against the Protest in Shaheen bagh in the national capital.
  • Dec 15 JMI incident: Delhi High Court listed matter for further hearing on Apr 29.
  • This is on request of Delhi Police and others to file reply on a batch of petitions related to the matter.
  • On Dec 15, police had entered the university premise without permission of VC and allegedly beaten students.
  • While police argument was some external fringed elements were inside the campus and started stone pelting on them. Later, VC also admitted some more then 700 fake IDs recovered in campus.
  • Mumbai Police Sources: Urvashi Chudawala against whom an FIR was registered under sedition charges at Azad Maidan station, is untraceable. FIR was registered against her and 50 others in connection with raising of slogans in support of Sharjeel Imam at Mumbai Pride Solidarity Gathering.

  • As per Global Times, Li Lanjuan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and her team on Tue confirmed 2 kinds of medicines effective against the nCV and suggested their inclusion in the NHC’s “Pneumonitis Diagnosis and Treatment Program for nCV Infection”.
  • Gilead Sciences, a biopharmaceutical firm claimed that in a statement that remdesivir has demonstrated some success in treating Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), two viruses similar to the Wuhan coronavirus – in animals.
  • The nCV outbreak has killed at least 427 people and infected more than 20,000 globally as it continues to spread beyond China.
  • The 5 individuals who were isolated at the quarantine camp in Manesar, Haryana as they were showing symptoms of cough and cold, have been tested negative for nCV.
  • Dept of Health, Karnataka: Till date 63 travelers from nCV affected countries have been identified and 58 are under home isolation, 4 passengers have left the country and 1 is admitted in selected isolation hospital.
  • Till date 56 samples sent for testing of which 39 are negative.
  • UP Health Dept Samples of 4 travelers were collected and sent to Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. Reports of all 4 samples are negative.

39 mega food parks and 298 integrated cold chain projects sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana

The component of the schemes includes integrated cold chain and value addition infrastructure, mega food parks, creation of backward and forward linkages, creation and expansion of food processing and preservation capacities, agro processing clusters and operation greens.

This will enhance the overall incomes of farmers in long term.

US: Seattle City Council passes resolution against CAA, NRC

  • Introduced by Indian American City Council member Kshama Sawant, the resolution urges the Parliament of India to uphold the Indian Constitution by repealing the CAA.
  • She has also been opposed to Opposition to U.S. support of Israel
  • Council on Mon unanimously passed a resolution condemning India’s recently-enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
  • Seattle City Council is a 9 membered legislative body and solely responsibility of approving the city’s budget, and develops laws and policies intended to promote the health and safety of Seattle’s residents.
  • Pak PM Imran Khan regretted on skipping the Kuala Lumpur Summit in Dec 2019. As per media reports he skipped the Summit of Islamic nations, under pressure from close ally Saudi Arabia.
  • He said: “I was looking forward to it because I feel the Muslim countries need to educate others about Islam”

The summit in Kuala Lumpur was seen by the Saudis as an attempt to create a new bloc in the Muslim world that could become an alternative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by the Gulf Kingdom.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked on PM Modi and said he coined good slogan of Make in India but not a single factory has been set up instead selling everything – Indian Oil, Air India, Hindustan Petroleum, Railways and even Red Fort.

PM Modi also address a Vijay Sankalp Rally at Dwarka, and mainly targeted CM Kejriwal for blame game politics.

  • Our Govt is trying to widen the metro network in Delhi. In the last 5 years, about 125 km of new metro lines have been built’.
  • He made an announcement that Govt is working on Yamuna River Front, which will become the pride for the 21st century people in Delhi, mark my words.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in Nadia asked the people that don’t show them any documents, if they ask you to submit your Aadhar card or details about your family, don’t give it to them, until and unless I tell you directly. She added in Assam, more than 100 people died because of the NRC. In WB, 31 or 32 died out of fear of NRC.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan says some terrorists ‘operating in the state’ have connections with Maoists, asked Congress not to glorify the ultras as he defended the NIA taking over UAPA cases against two student activists of CPI(M).

He made the remarks in the state assembly while opposing a notice for an adjournment motion sought to be moved by the Congress-led UDF against slapping of cases against two students under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for their alleged maoist links and the NIA probe.
