SC issues notice to Center on schemes for minorities. The petitioner says, spending Rs 4,800 Cr towards teaching skills to minorities promoting culture is a violation of right to equality. Court to hear the matter in March. SC judge, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman recuses from hearing liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s petition against the confiscation of his properties by the Enforcement Directorate; Court directs the matter to be listed before an appropriate Bench.

SC refuses to grant immediate stay on issuance of Electoral Bond Scheme, for the purpose of donations to political parties, notified by the Central government on January 2, 2018.

The petitions is filed by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Communist Party of India (CPM) and others, seeking a direction for stay on electoral bonds.

An electoral bond is like a promissory note that can be bought by any Indian citizen or company incorporated in India from select branches of State Bank of India.

The citizen or corporate can then donate the same to any eligible political party of his/her choice.

The bonds are similar to bank notes that are payable to the bearer on demand and are free of interest. An individual or party will be allowed to purchase these bonds digitally or through cheque.

Muzaffarpur shelter home case: Brajesh Thakur, 18 others convicted for sexually assaulting girls

A Delhi Court on Monday convicted 19 persons, including main accused Brajesh Thakur, in connection with sexual and physical assault of girls at a shelter home in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.

ADJ, Saurabh Kulshreshtha convicted Thakur for aggravated sexual assault under POCSO Act and gang rape. The court acquitted one of the accused in the case.

The matter had come to light after the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted a report to the Bihar Govt on May 26, 2018, highlighting the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls in the shelter home for the first time.

On May 29, 18, the Bihar government shifted the girls from the shelter home to other protection homes. An FIR was lodged against the 11 accused in the case on May 31, 18.

The SC on Aug 2, 18 took cognizance of the alleged sexual assaults of about 30 minor girls in Muzaffarpur’s shelter home and transferred the probe to the CBI on Nov 28.

Enforcement Directorate has arrested CC Thampi of Holiday Group.

He and his 3 companies, Holiday City Centre, Holiday Properties and Holiday Bekal Resorts were under ED investigation, under Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 for an aggregate amount of Rs. 288 crores.

Thampi, who was issued show-cause notices over Rs 1,000-crore fraud by the ED in 2017, was facing a probe involving the purchase of a property in Kerala.

ED had earlier claimed that Thampi had emerged as a link in a case involving Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Vadra and was questioned for his alleged links with Vadra and controversial arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

Agency sources had said the businessman was also under the scanner for his reported dealings with some politicians and bureaucrats.

As per security forces, 3 terrorists killed today by security forces during an encounter in Shopian (JnK) were affiliated to proscribed terrorist outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.

One of the terrorists killed has been identified as Adil Sheikh, responsible for looting eight weapons from the residence of former PDP MLA Ajaj Mir from Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar on Sept 29, 2018.

The other terrorist killed in the encounter is Waseem Wani, a resident of Shopian while the identity of the third terrorist is Jahangir.

JnK DGP Dilbag Singh, claimed that Hizbul Mujahideen is on the verge of being completely wiped out in South Kashmir.

In the month of July 2019, military intelligence agencies received inputs regarding a youth from Varanasi passing on critical information to Pakistani Intelligence agencies over WhatsApp.

The agency worked on this input through months of discreet surveillance and analysis with the support of other central agencies.

After an initial round of questioning and examination of a mobile device, his involvement with the Pakistani intelligence agency was evident and arrested on Jan 19. As per some media sources, he has visited Pak twice, in 2017 and 18. He also given information about army movements in Jodhpur. Many more thing yet to come out. 

 

IAF Chief RKS Bhadauria at Thanjavur air base: The integration of the air launched version of the BrahMos missile with the SU-30MKI fighter has been done fully indigenously by BrahMos Aerospace, HAL and the Air Force.
