‘Outraged’ over attack on Iraqi airbase housing the US troops

Opposition meets Against CAA, NRC
Some 19 opposition parties attended a meeting called by the main opposition party, INC at 2 pm to discuss the strategies against Govt on CAA, NRC, and force used by Govt against protestors. The INC leaders present in the meeting included party chief Sonia Gandhi, former PM MM Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Nabi Azad, KC Venugopal, and AK Antony.
Among other leaders The opposition party leaders who attended the meeting were NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Praful Patel, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury, JMM’s Hemant Soren, RJD’s Manoj Jha, CPI’s D Raja, Loktantrik Janta Dal’s Sharad Yadav, IUML’s PK Kinhalikutty, RSP’s Shatrujeet Singh, Kerala Congress-Mani’s Thomas Chazhikkadan, AIUDF’s Sirajuddin Ajmal and Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi of the National Conference.
After meeting Sonia Gandhi said “There’ve been nation-wide protests by youth supported by citizens. The immediate cause is CAA & NRC but they reflect widespread frustration & pent up anger, which is now out in the open. The response of the police in UP & Delhi has been shockingly partisan and brutal.”
After state-based parties like PDP, TMC, BSP, DMK and AAP refused to attend the meeting.
Tarun Gogoi, Congress on his reported statement ‘New political party a necessity in Assam’: I’ve not said I’ll form a new party, some orgs said they are thinking of forming a political party, I said they are welcome to do so. All of us should work together to oppose CAA and defeat BJP.
He is a senior INC leader and former CM of the state.
