A day After Appointment of CDS, different Remarks came from various Realms
After the announcement of the appointment of Gen Bipin Rawat, yesterday, controversial statements erupted from various political parties.
The US State Department (which handles foreign policy like India’s Ministry of External Affairs) said the position of CDS would “help catalyze greater US-India ‘joint’ cooperation between our militaries as discussed at [the] recent 2+2, including through joint exercises and info sharing”.
Leader of opposition in LS, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, along with Manish Tewari from Congress and D Raja from CPI, questioned the appointment of Gen Rawat as 1st CDS.
Choudhry tweeted “Central Government has taken General Rawat’s performance and ideological predilection into cognizance.”
While Tewari tweeted “Govt has started on a very wrong foot with regard to CDS. Time alone, unfortunately, will reveal the implications of this decision.”
Whereas, the leader from the same party, KTS Tulsi expressed satisfaction over the appointment.
No one has put any clear reason as to why Gen Rawat shouldn’t be there. However, he has been targeted many times by Congress and other opposition leaders from time to time for his forthright attitudes.
JnK Police claimed normalcy returned in Valley
In a PC, JnK DGP Dilbag Singh claimed a 30% decline in terror activities and also eliminated 160 terrorists in 2019 and 80 successful operations against terrorists with zero collateral damage.
He also expressed hope over the constitution of a separate “narcotics cell” in the state.

Kerala’s Assembly Passed Anti CAA Bill
A 140 membered state assembly unanimously this bill by 139 members excluding one BJP member, who walked out.
The minorities determining (44.94%) state is dominated by 2 coalition fronts: the Communist Party of India (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the INC-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
Nevertheless, the citizenship act is under the jurisdiction of the center, therefore, constitutional validity is still under question.
UP Police seeks ban on PFI for involvement in anti-CAA protests
The request was made in the backdrop of a probe conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police which found PFI’s involvement in the violent protests against CAA and NRC that took place on Dec 19.
Pursuant to the widespread protests, the UP Police had arrested 3 members of PFI including its state president Waseem Ahmad.
As per media, The Popular Front of India (PFI) is an extremist and militant Islamic fundamentalist organization in India founded in 2006. Also suspected with its connection to a banned organization SIMI. [1].
Today only, Dy CM KP Mourya said that in UP Popular Front of India (PFI) will be banned.
A Muslim cleric Abbas Siddiqui from Furfura Sharif, a holy place of Muslims in WB claimed that the CAA is unfair to the Muslim population of the country.
He asked CM, Mamata Banerjee, to take immediate steps to stall the Act or else “she risks losing the support of Muslims in West Bengal.”
He went on to add that all the protests that the West Bengal CM is leading in the state are not enough to satisfy the Muslim population.
In WB, the Muslim votes (21%) is deciding factor in elections and supposed to be a core supporter group of ‘Any’ party which is anti-BJP.
